Welcome to our webpage dedicated to the captivating history of catering, and gastronomy. Words hold significance, and we begin our exploration with the origin of the word restaurant. Derived from the French verb "restaurer" meaning to restore or recover, this term has evolved over time. Our journey commences from ancient Roman times and traverses the centuries, leading us to the nineteenth century.

 

As we delve into this intriguing narrative, we will highlight noteworthy and curious historical facts, with a particular emphasis on France, where many pivotal events in the culinary world unfolded. We will also touch upon the hospitality system, as it intertwines with our discussion.

 

Moreover, we will share insights from movies that depict culinary history, addressing any inaccuracies in the screenplays while striving to present historical truths in an engaging manner.

 

I hope that these particular cooking school lessons can be useful to enthusiasts, students and professionals in the sector. Below you can download a booklet free of charge for educational purposes which is the synthesis of a very broad topic, a subject of university studies in various faculties.

 

Multi-language navigation was a challenge, but I tried to express key concepts in the languages used. My goal was to try to use historically accurate terms in all the languages used in the cookbooks we studied.
